This Texas BBQ Joint Is Where Locals Go for Live Music and Legendary Comfort Food

Texas Tradition. That’s Loco Coyote Grill right down to the tip of the coyote’s tail.

Sunsets in Glen Rose, sawdust floors, live music, games for kids, and a long front porch—if that doesn’t spell out Texas, I don’t know what will.

Take one peek at their Loco logo of a cartoon coyote with droopy ears, a big nose, and dizzy eyes — all perched atop a ‘Crazy Good!’ ribbon, and you’ll just know.

You’re a member of the coyote family, now. Turn around and ask those kids of yours, “Who’s a coyote?” And what’ll they do? They’ll howl, of course! Heads up, 90-degree angles, mouths in perfect “O”s, eyes squinched, heads thrown back, letting out a few yelps.

It’ll be you soon enough. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Meal-plan before your coyote pack slinks away

Test them: “How does a barbecue restaurant sound to everyone?”

Blank stares.

The dog’s tail beats rhythmically against the couch’s bruised side.

One kid pipes up. “How long has it been in business?” he queries, solemnly.

Visions of parties popping into your head? Same. It’s got all the space, views, activities, and more of a party destination. On site, you can split your party, some indoors, some outdoors. Let the kids go outside and play, while quieter folks stay inside to visit or sit in companionable silence.

I immediately felt drawn to Loco’s live music and dancing. Not all of us are born light-footed — but put on the right song, and even the stiffest boots find the rhythm. Get a night of dancing out of the friend group chat and into shared calendars.

At Loco, there’s live music on Friday and Saturday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Hungry coyotes, in March 2026, the lineup included music by the likes of Mitchell Ford, Joe Dean, Doug Rose, Markus Miller, Billy Smith, and Landry Allen.

That’s how many of the greats in Nashville first started out. Playing for the people back home, the sound of plates and chatter mingling with one foot tapping on a sawdust floor.

For any Texas lovebirds, dance the night away on the patio to the tunes you know, love, or tunes you know, love, or are about to fall for.

“Yuck,” spits a little voice near your ear. Oh, yes! If you have kids, and they’re not into watching parents dance all night, skip a late Friday or Saturday, and enjoy a family day out at Loco with games, big tables, and good times.

Loco has dine-in and take-out flexibility, too. If you’re on the go, you can do take-out, and get on to the next event on your schedule! Do keep in mind, if you’re planning ahead, that they don’t take reservations for dining in. Round up all your kids, or friends, early, so no one’s starving when they arrive!

Do you have a friend or kid who’s perpetually shivering? If they forgot a jacket, no sweat. On chilly nights, Loco runs a fireplace to keep all their coyotes warm and dry.

“Okay. Well, when should I plan a visit?” you ask, one highlighter cap tapping your cheek, calendar in hand.

The tough news: They’re closed Monday through Wednesday. But no need to tuck tail! Let’s see about that good news.

The good news: Loco is open Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. They’re also open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., closing a couple hours early.

Saturday is their busiest day of the week, followed by Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

If you’re a smaller group, or meeting up with a friend or your spouse, plan for an off-peak time, since there are only two or so of you. Parking is mostly on grass, gravel, or sand. There aren’t parking spots, per se. Park next to who’s already there! There’s easy access off the road, but it can be a bit narrow.

In fact, Loco has “Loco Fan Favorites,” denoted by Lone Stars on their menu.

I’d go for the $12 Onion Rings, a staple. It’s a Loco fan favorite, to boot.

Chips, Salsa, and Queso at $12 are a table favorite, though it’s tough to compete with authentic Mexican food on that front.

Other appetizers include Coyote Balls, a Loco fan favorite, at $13, and Fried Pickles at $10.

True Texans know sides are where it’s at.

Loco offers up Fried Okra, French Fries, Mac and Cheese, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Pinto Beans, a House Salad, or a Baked Potato. I’d pick the Baked Potato and Fried Okra!

Thinking about a small burger? That’s not Loco!

These “monster” burgers, at Loco, tend to be tall. Bring your A-game! A build-your-own burger costs $15, and it comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles, along with one side.

Hankering for a steak instead? These two are Loco fan favorites: a Ribeye Steak at $35 and a Chicken Fried Steak at $25. The bonus for me? Texas toast! There’s just something about the crunch, the buttery flavor, the bready inside.

When you get to entrees, Loco has a lot of choices for you.

Pick from a Grilled Chicken or Steak Salad in the $15-19 range, Chicken Tenders at $15, or Fried Shrimp at $21. If you get the shrimp, you also get hushpuppies, which is certainly an added benefit.

Fried Catfish is a Loco fan favorite, a tried-and-true choice. There’s even a deal for an Everyday All You Can Eat Catfish at $20. Pace yourself!

Chase it all down with $3 drinks, including sweet or unsweet tea, Dr. Pepper, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Root Beer, or a classic Lemonade.

“But what are my kids going to eat?” you say, twitching your nose. Don’t fret! They have a kids menu with burgers, chicken tenders, and grilled cheese, each served with one side. Fun the whole family can enjoy!

Bring on the Texas BBQ! I hear you! Loco sells their meat by the pound, with a range of costs depending on what meat and how much you get.

Can’t decide? A Loco fan favorite, the Pig Outs — a Loco fan favorite — let you feast on various meats: for 2 at $75, for 4 at $145, for 6 at $205, or for 8 at $255.

Another Loco fan favorite is the BBQ plates that come with 2 sides and Texas toast.

If you’re a fan of potatoes, like me, the Loaded Baked Potato, a Loco fan favorite, is a meal in and of itself, at $15, with some meat, butter, and cheese.

Did you leave room for dessert? Yes? Texas-sized desserts at Loco include a Cobbler of the Day for $9 or a Brownie Sundae for $9.

These classics take you back to home cooking. A cobbler — messy, staining, but worth every bite. A sundae, the kind you’d get from grandma or grandpa when you were on your best behavior.

Take note of extra fees! If you’re a group of 8 or more, you will have a service charge of 20% automatically added. And if you bring in a cake, there’s a $20 fee for Loco to cut the cake for you.

Plus, if you’re going to pay with a credit card, be ready for a 3% processing fee. Something to watch for!

As your group heads out after a big meal, full stomachs, teary laughs, and more than a few silly photos, stop by Loco’s General Store.
