Bloomberg to file  to place his name on ballot in Texas

Mike Bloomberg, the potential contender, filed to place his name on the ballot in Texas just a few hours before the top 10 Democratic White House candidates face off in the 5th  round of presidential nomination debates of their party.

He filed on Wednesday, while aides noted that the former New York City mayor and billionaire business and media mogul isn’t on the ballot in Texas officially until the secretary of state certifies his name.

Now Texas is the fifth state that Bloomberg has filed and placed his name on the ballot. He filed in Alabama about two weeks ago, just an hour ahead of filing deadline of that state. After that, he filed in Arkansas and Michigan last week, and filed in Georgia this Tuesday.

Texas is considered to be the second most populous in the 14 states, following California which hold primaries and caucuses on Super Tuesday. This will be held on March 3, after the contests are organized in the early voting states of New Hampshire, Nevada, California and Iowa.

Aides have told that Bloomberg will skip the early voting states if he declares his candidacy. Instead, he would likely be blanketing the airwaves by TV commercials in the delegate-rich states which would vote in March and beyond.

Bloomberg aides state that there’s an announcement on his 2020 plans which could possibly come as early as the end of this week.

Last year, Bloomberg, the former Republican-turned-independent during his 3 consecutive terms as New York City mayor, has changed his voter registration to Democrat. Although he flirted with a presidential bid early this year, he ruled out a run in March.

His top advisers, however, said that Bloomberg had changed his mind as he worried that the current crop of 2020 Democratic White House contenders were not “well-positioned” enough to beat President Trump in next November.
